Morality is in the eye of the beholder

Reader comment on: Tax Increases 'Not Now'

It is immoral for a child to go without food in a wealthy county. It is immoral for a woman to lack prenatal care because she is currently unemployed. It is immoral for migrant workers to lack decent working conditions. These affronts to my morality far outweigh the sadness I feel if Warren Buffett had to forfeit a larger chunk of his bounty.

Many people derive morality from religious contexts. As my wife points out, there were many taxes as written in the Bible in the land of Israel. These taxes were to support the state and help the less fortunate, not just to maintain a standing army.
