It's the principle of the thingReader comment on: The Right on Public Broadcasting Submitted by Bohemond (United States), Oct 27, 2010 17:31 Sure, the NPR budget is tiny on the gargantuan Federal scale, and everyone knows (at least I hope they do) that over 60% of the US budget goes to entitlements. There can be no serious budget-cutting without going after those. However, every little bit helps. Why the hell is the government funding radio? In tough economic times, luxuries should be the first things to go. And, moreover, why should the government not only be horning into an arena which should be left to the private sector, but supporting specifically left-wing radio, where, as should now be abundantly clear, deviation from the Party Line will not be tolerated? The Left loves to complain about the military budget, and was absolutely thrilled when Obama killed the F-22 because it was "too expensive"- never mind that the program would have cost less than just the supplemental appropriation rushed through to bail out the cash-for clunkers debacle. (Never mind that half the F-15 fleet will shortly be 'aged out', the airframes too fatigued to be flyable). The budget will never be balanced by getting rid of the puppet theaters and turtle crossings, alone. But we certainly need to start there- if for no other reason, to make the point thet the public coffers don't exist to pay for useless crap just because somebody wants them.
