The anecdote is offensive and misleading. If we all started with the same lot in life as Harry and his brothers, that would be one thing. But of course we don't. Being a minority in our country makes life more difficult - harder to get loans (even with identical qualifications as white people), likely in a worse school system, with less accumulated wealth and inheritance.

These parables that draw a direct causal relationship between "hard work" and wealth are beyond troubling. The reverse suggests that if one is poor, he is lazy. This is offensive and takes the pressure off all those actors in society who perpetuate the class system we live under.
