Does it go far (or high) enough?

Reader comment on: Introducing NewsTransparency.com

I question the apparent premise behind this site, that the veracity of a reporter's work can be determined by (or discredited by) a list of personal biases and potential conflicts of interest. First, it assumes that reporters aren't professional enough to set their own biases aside when trying to write objectively. Second, it ignores the real source of bias, higher up, at the institutional level. If you really want transparency, you'll compile a dossier on the owners and publishers who dictate what gets covered (or ignored) and from what point of view. If individual journalists have a bias that unconsciously marks their work, it's a bias toward continued employment and against biting the hand that feeds them.
