Long on fear, short on understanding

When either the Right or Left indulges in invective, the more shrill the hate the more frightened is the ideologue. It is fear that grounds partisan hate, so all that Mr. DeLong has accomplished by his insult is to reveal his deep psychic fear that Mr. Roberts is actually corrrect.

Mr. DeLong is at Berkeley. No wonder. With the 30-year collapse of California culture, Berkeley is just about the most hateful faculty in America.
