Do you know what you are talking about..Reader comment on: Mitch Daniels on the State of the Nation Submitted by Karyn (United States), Mar 14, 2010 17:45 Teachers work beyond the 7-3 school hour. Usually they work 3 or more hours beyond the work day tutoring, grading papers, planning with no overtime. Yes, they often work on weekends too. This is the norm. Our pay is spread over 12 months. Teachers pay for supplies for their own classroom.. It takes 15 or more years to reach the top of the pay scale to make 50-60 thousand dollars with a masters degree. Benifits are paid for by the teacher...I pay over $700+ dollars a month for health insurance, $250 a month for life insurance, 6% of my salary to the retirement fund, I am allowed to participate in a 401k/403B if I choose, plus what $$$ is taken out for social security. Teachers work hard and deserve respect not attacks from the government. Mr. Daniels and many others want something for nothing. Corporate CEO's would prefer to pay slave wages to employees and have them work sweat shop hours so they can pad their own wallets with bonuses. I wonder how much money in bonuses Mr. Daniels took home when he was president of Eli Lilly. The state of Indiana is in trouble financially...since Mr. Daniels is independently wealthy I wonder if he has turned down a salary or taken a pay cut. Is he living in a home provided by the state or is he paying rent? And if you believe he is not running for president I have some swamp land to sell you.
