It is the demise of the physican as small business person in favor of employee. As I understand it few new practicioners are doing the stand alone doc mode, but rather working for clinics. As long as you had a lot of small business people, then there was no money to pay for the automation, and no incentive for quickmed from quicken like in small businesses. Of course in Electronic Medical Records best became the severe enemy of good enough. The simple case would have been to buy a scanner, and scan the physicians notes and lab tests into the record. But that was too simple they wanted more.
