I don't like this line of reasoning

Reader comment on: Maureen Dowd on Neoconservatives
in response to reader comment: "Snake" reference not antisemitic

I've heard it said that calling Obama "angry" is a racist term. Evidently there is some stereotype about the "angry black man". The result? We're not allowed to say Obama is angry, because it shows we are anti-black. This is ridiculous.

So now Dowd is using the term "snake" to refer to Goldman Sachs. So this is necessarily anti-semitic? Are we never allowed to use the term snake about someone like Bernie Madoff? Can't the word "snake" be used on anyone, without establishing a protected class of people for which we have to water down our metaphors?

Our side of the aisle is better than this. We don't pull our spurious charges of racism or discrimination everytime we get criticized. That's THEIR tactic--"war on women" nonsense and the like. We debate with honesty and integrity. Let's not stoop to their level.
