They are that folks learn in different fashions and have different motivations for learning. The article implies that a number of people need essentially to be spoon fed information from their instructors, having not been taught how to teach themselves, which IMHO is the biggest failing of the schools and colleges. It appears that because the folks in question have not learned good ways to study and learn, the on line courses which assume these habits and methods are not for them. Perhaps we need an instructor led course in how to learn (it is so much easier now than 40 years ago, back then you had to go to a physical building that housed information, and darken its doors for a good bit of time, now the information is delivered to your computer on demand.
