Independence from the paternalism and imperialism of British rule was what dignity required to become what we could potentially and ought to be as a country and people, and that dignity is ultimately informed by a sense and belief that we are loved and guided by no less than nature's and our Creator and by this grace - as I understand it. Without this belief, what oppressions might one put up with as our sights are lowered? Excellent article.
