The governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, is attracting some attention for his commencement address over the weekend at Liberty University, in which he said that "the most significant moment of my life was when I turned it over to Jesus Christ and acknowledged him as my savior."
Excepts are at the Christian Broadcasting Network (here) and at the governor's site (here). At least one left-wing blogger denounced the speech as bigoted and delusional.
But it's worth remembering that Christian humility isn't just some kind of fringe idea touted only by Republican politicians at evangelical universities in the South. David Brooks, a New York Times columnist who is a regular on NPR and "Meet the Press," taught a class at Yale in Spring of 2013 that dwelled on the topic, talking about Augustine and Dorothy Day.
