Does this mean the FutureOfCapitalism newsletter is going away and to get similar (and more!) content we now need to subscribe to The Editors? Or is there going to be an automated transition?
The answer: At some point I may consider importing the existing FutureOfCapitalism list (those remaining who haven't signed up) as free subscribers to The Editors. I'd much prefer, though, if people actively sign themselves up. The user experience for that also takes people through a pay or free choice, and I hope some people will choose the paid option.
Will the The Editors still send out a newsletter or do we now have to get onto the Substack platform to get the content?
The answer: Yes, the email newsletter is a key part of The Editors—the core product, in fact. If you subscribe from a computer the email newsletter signup should be fairly seamless. If you subscribe from a smartphone and maybe also from a tablet it will push the Substack "app," which for people who prefer an app may be a useful thing. It will then give you a choice of reading in the app only or having also the email newsletter.
Sorry for the hassle, but I think once you are aboard you will come to agree with me that the Substack is far superior to what we have now in terms of technology to support growth. A lot of people are already getting other newsletters on Substack so for them it may be a matter of just adding a subscription to an existing list. For some people it may require setting up a new account with Substack.
