Sanctuary, the magazine of the Massachusetts Audubon Society that attracted criticism here a couple of years ago for an article praising V.I. Lenin for what the magazine called his "strong commitment to conserving Russia's natural heritage," is ceasing publication after 34 years and 200 issues, the society announced.
Mass. Audubon says the award-winning magazine's editor and staff will instead work on an "annual book." The final issue of the magazine is devoted to "climate change."
In a tweet, Mass Audubon offered the explanation that "Rising paper, printing, & postage costs are making it difficult for us to invest in print publications as much as we would like."
