This bill wouldn't takeover the student loan industry, as the only thing it does it make all federal student loans provided directly via the Direct Loan Program by the Department of Education, instead of by private lenders. The private student loan industry is left alone, while the federal Pell Grant program is given a little bit of a boost via an injection of additional funding.
