Pushing their valuesReader comment on: Millionaires for Tax Increases Submitted by ben (United States), Nov 28, 2010 19:55 How is a person who advocates higher taxes pushing their values on another person, but a person who argues for the same or lower rate not pushing their values on another person? this makes no sense. The former values more distribution and thus more equality, the latter values keeping his money and thus more personal freedom. The tension between freedom and equality is what our country has struggled with since its inception, but it is wrong to say that one group advocating higher taxes is pushing its values while the group advocating personal freedom is not. The Future of Capitalism replies: Because if you want the higher taxes everyone has to pay, even the ones who don't want the higher taxes (if they are in the bracket). But if you don't want the higher taxes, you don't mind if someone else writes a voluntary extra tax payment check to the Treasury. Other reader comments on this item
