Unvaccinated kidsReader comment on: The Panic Virus Submitted by steve miller (United States), Jan 11, 2011 14:59 Clicking around a little I failed to find a good contemporary estimate of the number of kids who haven't received MMR, the primary object of vaccination fear in my experience and the one that Wakefield fingered (possibly fraudulently it now emerges). My family recently moved to a middle class suburb just north of NYC and I was shocked to find relatively quickly that three of his 2nd grade classmates hadn't received MMR because their parents were adamant that it was too dangerous. I've got a pretty small sample size here and I'm pretty sure that the parents didn't make this decision collaboratively. It would be interesting to know just how widespread the hysteria is. Pity Mnookin's book doesn't come with the "look inside" feature so we can see if he has estimates. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
