energy taxes are free market ways to recoup the cost of pollution caused by energy consumption. even if Israel will soon be getting much of its energy from domestic sources due to the gas find, it still makes sense to raise the energy tax. if only the US could phase in a carbon tax, it would have untold positive benefits from a foreign policy and climate change perspective. too bad everyone is too gutless to tell the truth on an energy tax. yes, even the club for growth should acknowledge that sometimes taxes can be good things.
