The gov has more than effective control of the companies, so the old shareholders could not change anything anyway. In that kind of a situation of being a severe minority shareholder, you can sell or you can hold. Note that the web sites do have information targeted at equity investors, and you can get the Sec filings such as 10k and 10qs from their web site. Since a lot of companies have reduced their annual report to a letter from the CEO saying how great things are and the 10-k its about as good. No point in the expense of an annual meeting unless one enjoys tilting at windmills.
