Cheap appliances?

Sen. Sanders wants me as a consumer to pay more for my next fridge. GE wants me as a taxpayer to pay more for green energy. By the way, GE is advertising heavily here in SoCal (don't know about nationwide) in support of the Ronald Reagan centenary. Are they trying to grovel before Republican sentiment and nostaglia for the Gipper to balance the groveling before the renewable energy crowd?
