Part-time employees

Reader comment on: The Coming Part-Time Workforce

I employ about 15 people, mostly part time. The problem is the employees aren't able to make enough money to meet living expenses. At one time, we had 4 employees living together pooling their money just to live (the state determines acceptable salaries - we are penalized if we pay them more).

Your employees never really take ownership of their jobs. Part time employees seems to foster an attitude of a transient mentality. They certainly can't make enough money to live on. We had 4 employees who lived together for a while and pooled their money just so they could meet expenses.

This is going to be expensive on the employer and not give the employee enough money to live on. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen to me.
