Sanders only runs as an independent because it fools enough people in VT to get him elected. He has many times admitted openly that he is a socialist and is proud of it. Thanks to the teachers union and media, his propaganda sells here easily, as well as Howard Dean and all the other NY transplants that came here in the 60's and 70's. As a result, Vermont's economy is like California's, but without the pleasing climate.
