If the engine runs away on any car, neutral is the place to start, it kills the acceleration and the brakes can clearly handle the car there after. Not knowing how to put a car with an automatic in neutral?? And a highway patrolman to boot (who should have had high performance driving training). You have to go thru neutral to get to drive. If you don't mind killing the engine perhaps for good, there is always reverse which is set up to kill the engine right then as well. You likely will have to get a new car thereafter but you are alive. Are folks as stupid as some seem to be? (I guess so, they get themselves screwed up in finances as well).
