Reader comment on: GEICO's Federal Employee Leave App, Discount

Submitted by BH Shareholder (United States), Nov 29, 2011 17:58

2 points: first, Geico's original name was Government Employees Insurance Company, which means that their origins were focused on government employees; second, there is a link between income level and accident rates, which is likely the point of GS-7 (the lower end of the start of higher paid government employment). For non-governmental employees, Geico (like many other insurance companies) uses your employment and credit history to assess your likely accident rate and factors it into your quoted rate. You may not recall giving consent to check your credit history, but check your free annual credit report and check with Geico because you did. Also, if you own Berkshire stock (a great buy!), you get a shareholder's discount (also a discount for taking a safe drivers course). Save away!
