What a ludicrous claim !Reader comment on: The Postwar Boom Submitted by Austin Texas (United States), Jun 23, 2012 20:16 This Professor wants you to believe that the post-war boom was the result of a cut in government spending. To begin with, during the war the military spending was astronomical in relation to GDP. And GDP was down because almost all manufacturing and agriculture were going to the war effort. There is a long list of reasons for the booming economy after the war, not the least of which is the fact that the US was the only major manufacturing power still intact. We had to supply the rest of the world with goods and food. To say that the postwar boom was due to cuts in government spending is ideological nonsense.
