Kennedy School out of line

Reader comment on: Anonymous Harvard Professors Trash Broadwell

Submitted by Ann Fielding (United States), Nov 15, 2012 21:34

You are so right that, in choosing to distance itself from Paula Broadwell, Harvard's Kennedy School did not honor its obligation to remain silent about the lives of its students. The article on the 14th was clearly a PR attempt to counter any negative fall-out from the previous day's article in the Boston Globe ("Kennedy School key in David Patreaus Saga"). HKS would have done better to remain silent in this case. Instead, it denounced the person who months earlier it invited to speak on a panel after her book's success. People make mistakes, sometimes critical ones, and Broadwell is undoubtedly at the lowest point of her life. The Kennedy School might have done better to question the kinds of abuses that come with power and extreme ambition. There would be a lesson for those with a little too much hubris.
