Attention Middle Class!!Reader comment on: George Will on Social Security Submitted by David (United States), Apr 11, 2010 12:22 Social Security is the centerpiece of the federal government's unrelenting fiscal assault on the middle class that gained steam circa 1965. Using BLS inflation statistics, I calculate that the maximum annual SS "contribution" has increased greater more than 15 times the rate of inflation indexed to the 1937 baseline of 2% of the first $3000 of income. Most of this increase has been realized since the mid-70s when payouts were adjusted for "inflation". As Will notes, this was at best inaccurate, and most likely bogus; Obama showed how much he care about COLA when he waved around that $250 supplemental check for 2010 recipients to make up for no increase in the absence of inflation. If you're under 40-45, please realize that SS and Medicare are transfers to the wealthiest age cohort, not a means to keep the elderly from eating catfood cause they're so poor. End SS and Medicare NOW! Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing. Other reader comments on this item
