Even if one isn't afraid of global warming, and as a technologist, I am not too afraid because I think we can always geoengineer away our problems, there is still a strong argument to be made to move away from fossil fuels. We pay to prop up reprehensible regimes around the world, and if we instituted a carbon tax or cap and trade (I am fine with making it revenue neutral) than we not only hurt our enemies, but may address global warming as well.
