Bloomberg News has an article about a legal gift-and-estate-tax avoidance maneuver called the Walton grantor retained annuity trust, or GRAT, which is a fine example of how these taxes work to enrich tax lawyers without doing much in the way or raising federal revenue or reducing inequality.
