New York Times columnist Bret Stephens writes about President Trump's choice of Mike Pompeo for secretary of State: "he'd be smart to model his behavior on Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, the administration's one undisputed star." As Stephens' Times predecessor William Safire pointed out posthumously on Twitter, Mick Mulvaney and Scott Gottlieb are stars, too.
As for Secretary Mattis, the longtime Theranos board member has lately fetched up defending the Iran nuclear deal and wouldn't publicly support Trump's decision to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. If there's a secret to success in the Trump administration or for that matter, in analyzing it, it's understanding that the star is Trump, who is, after all, the one who was elected.
