"Cronyism" is too general a term to have any meaning.

The "Crony Capitalism" label IS necessary -- as the previous commenter noted, we do not have free-market capitalism in this country, and thus most of the arguments against "free market / laissez-faire capitalism" cannot be exposed for the straw man criticisms that they are, simply by calling it "cronyism". The word cronyism may have loose connotations to politics, but none whatsoever to capitalism. The label is needed to highlight the straw man argument "'unfettered' free markets are responsible for XYZ problem..."
