John James Cowperthwaite, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong from 1961 to 1971, famously refused to collect economic statistics precisely to avoid officials meddling in the economy.

Ayn Rand advocated a complete separation of state and economy. That would be a far cry from what we have now, and far more free, fair, and prosperous.
