Value of collegeReader comment on: Is College a Good Investment? Submitted by J.Johnson (United States), Jul 23, 2010 09:41 The change of opinion could, and almost certainly does, also arise from the disillusionment of some, or maybe even most, of the millions of students who have enrolled in, and paid dearly to stay in, for-profit colleges and then found that their 'degrees' had far less value in the marketplace than graduates of traditional colleges and universities. The problem isn't so much the concept of for-profit schools as it has been that too many of these schools enroll students who could not possibly master the coursework at any traditional institution but are carried on the for-profit rolls as long as they can continue borrow tens of thousands of dollars to pay for their 'education.' Recent legislation in Congress appears primarily aimed at aiding these sorts of students who now find that they can find only low paying jobs despite their high-cost degrees.
