The Rich versus the Rest

Reader comment on: The Biggest Tax Collector in American History

I must say, I do not understand the reasoning that sees no harm in the increasing stratification of incomes and wealth in this country, irrespective of the fact that those much higher income earners (and I use the term 'earner' loosely) pay a higher proportion of their income to taxes than do the peons. How is it smart to favor diversion of, say, 40% of household income via taxation to the Feds and States, given their profoundly wasteful spending habits? Far better, I'd say, to see income spread far more evenly to earners who pay, say, 20% of income to profligate and grossly overpaid govt officials to be inefficiently spent. This might also help break the cycle of the rich virtually purchasing politicians in order to keep the money 'circulation system' intact that acts now to the mutual benefit and enrichment of the well-off and their govt minders.
