Paul Ryan's ideas are a road to serfdom

Ryan's ideas hark back to the 19th century and will be horrible for most Americans. I wrote a couple pieces on my blog about Ryan's WSJ article. Technology and productivity are advancing at a rapid pace, inevitably reducing the amount of labor required to produce what we need. Meanwhile, there's billions of low wage workers willing to compete for what is available. Ryan's prescription of going back to some pre-industrial Adam Smithian world will be a disaster and turn the majority into near serfs desperate for work. We don't call them serfs in the 21st century, just flexible workers.

It's Orwellian to think this path is anything but the road to serfdom.
