Sorry, but this post is a bit off. I agree that the private sector would do far bettter and provide better, faster rail services for this nation and Amtrak needs to be organized in such a way that it can fully support itself and its stations. But I must make note that the Acela Express makes quite a profit and is one of three rail routes in America that currently do so, so there's no subsidies there. And where was the justice in the railroads getting taxed so that the highways and airports could expand at the hand of the government before the Staggers Act?

How do you square "no subsidies" with the signs Friedman talks about explaining that stimulus act spending is being spent on lighting the platforms?
