Recall that the American Party(Know Nothings) was opposed to catholic immigration, and there had been riots earlier as immigrants cut wages. Since the argument is going on 170 years old, perhaps it's ready to move to the philosophical realm where arguments go that can never be resolved. (Likely because the postulates behind the arguments differ so much that reasoning is impaired) (Recall the issue of how many lines parallel to a given line pass thru a point, there are 3 answers all valid 0 1, and many. Each leads to a consistent geometry that applies in some realms.) Recall that some things can't be proven in math but have to be taken on faith(postulate) like the parallel example above.
