Let's open the Overton Window further. Why not entertain a serious proposal to outlaw public schools? I see no evidence that they do more good than harm and much that education was superior before they existed. Philosophically there is no reason to allow our children to be indoctrinated by the state, and much reason to think that such indoctrination is not just a side-effect but a primary purpose of the public schooling system.

I survived a K-12 public education, partly in the US and partly in the UK, but I would not wish it on others.
