It depends on what reporting means

In general funeral homes report deaths to the social security death index, this happens even before the death certificate is issued. Partly this is to stop SS payments and avoid having to ding folks for refunds. Of course in many states (Texas being one example) the vital statistics office does not notify the drivers license folks when a person died. When my parents passed they got applications to renew their drivers license in the mail, and in addition because jury summons are based off drivers license data, my late father got called for jury duty. I called the office and said we might be able to arrange a seance if needed but I did not think the judge would approve, they apologized a lot.
Typically federal all us reports are put out about a year to a year and a half after the end of a year (just like births). Births and deaths are not federal records and are rather a state matter. If you look at the covid tracking data it shows deaths for Connecticut (about 3000) As with many items they don't understand that these things are not a federal responsibility and in fact by the 9th and 10th amendment are reserved to the states, It just means that journalists have to do some more work, but
as with many things the media seems to prefer letting the feds do the work even if it ignores the constitution. Note that there is a public private partnership for ct on line at https://www.ctdata.org/covid19
that provides this information.
