A lawyer where I worked in the IT department in 1993 said of email " Don't say anything in email that you would not mind appearing on the front page of the New York Times. Of course lots of folks would avoid lots of trouble by following this even more so with social media. Since the first amendment only deals with government restrictions on speech one should think of what the reaction of folks to what you might say, It was also this way during the McCarthy era albeit that the political points of view were reversed i.e part of the left were perceived as the bad guys whereas at least part of the right is so perceived today.
