Reader comment on: Government Medicine

Submitted by Lyle (United States), Nov 16, 2010 12:44

The issue is not government medicine, it's our medicine system, which does not have a defined set of best practices and the like. The article did point out that the system has now cracked down on things like doing surgery on the wrong limb and the like. The book the checklist manefesto explains that medicine is now too complex for the old ways of doing it, but new ways face resistance. There are groups that do well such as Mayo and others like it but a lot of hospitals and physicians think they know better.
