Yes, make the pie bigger

I agree that making the pie bigger is great, and I don't begrudge anyone for being rich. But until we eliminate poverty and everyone has a basic standard of living worthy of the richest country in the World (healthcare, food, clothing etc) then we should take from those with the most and help those with the least. We do this not because we resent the rich, but because they are the ones capable of helping people without as much.

To beat this metaphor into the ground, I would prefer a slightly smaller pie where everyone gets at least a bite to a larger pie with a few people eating almost the whole thing. And as a Democratic Capitalist and Keynesian, I would also argue that a larger pie with a few people gorging will ultimately limit growth more than than a smaller pie where everyone is nourished.
