Combine the 12 month statements as well as the various annual reports and the cost to mail notices of annual meeting etc, and if one has a couple of stocks in the portfolio, then the postage cost would be at least $20.
So since the larger the account is the more money it makes for vanguard, it makes sense to charge for this, as indeed most banks also do today.
