The Times was looking at state employees versus the private sector, and this post drug in the federal workers. so delete the first 3 bullet points for a comparison. The federal pension system is no where near as generous as the state systems for those hired post 1986. One needs to keep state and local workers in a different pool than federal workers because the state and local government leaders depend on the votes of the workers to keep their jobs so they vote big benefits.
