Perhaps they do not want the quarter by quarter release of results and the pressure to raise the stock price as well as the scrutiny that comes from being a private company. Recall that Ford was private until the 1950s. If you don't need the capital why go public unless stock options force you to. (Bill Gates did not want to go public, and MS did not need the capital but the stock options he had granted forced it). If you don't want to cash out rapidly and do not need more capital for plants and the like there is little business reason to go public.
