I now understand why the law ended up almost always according to Rabbi Hillel's view, but I never understood why until reading your post.

If only we were all today more open to listening to our opponents' points of view, we might gain some insight into things we believe are 100% right. After all, only HaShem (G-d) is always right. We all sometimes forget that we all have something to teach each other. As it says in the Mishnah (?) - מכל תלמידי השכתי - i.e., I have learned from all of my students.
