Dreams vs. DentistReader comment on: Obama's State of the Union Submitted by Ovit (United States), Jan 26, 2011 00:02 I don't know if I agree. Maybe it's a generational thing. I'm a generational peer of Mr. Ryan's. We grew up on Reagan. I, for one, loved him for the reasons the author describes. I think people like me generally see the Baby Boom generation as screwing everything up. Royally. We watched our parents - usually both parents - work. Mine worked corporate jobs and worried every day about being down-sized. They still worry about retirement, instead of truly enjoying it. They worked, and they really never got that far ahead. You have to be credentialed to really get ahead anymore. Most of us aren't. We're educated. And this dreamy Sputnik crap just doesn't fly with us, either. Hello? We had the Space Shuttle and the awesome Mars Rovers. I think we're generally realists, and understand that we're in a jam we had little to do with making. I don't think most of us dream of solar shingles or experience visions of electric cars. We want affordable gas until some other viable solution comes along. We want responsible leadership. We want people who don't count us as suckers. We know Social Security will not be there for us. We know Obamacare is a stinker. We want all this crap fixed before it is really too late. We can handle the dentist's chair, if we can just get it over with already. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
