If a small business used quicken or the equivalent and paid by check, the only added work would be knowing the taxpayer id number of the person being paid. At the end of the year you would tell quicken to do the printing and you were done. Now if you were paying cash, or keeping two sets of books, like some of the businesses that got caught in the oil spill with inadaquate records it's different. Given the low cost of a PC and Quicken or equivalent, why any business keeps its books any other way today is beyond me. You probably need the PC for ordering and the like today anyway.
