Guardian's Medical business has been failing for years - - was already at 20% of its peak when Obama took office. It was too expensive for the small-business owners it was pitched to, and just couldn't compete with the big guys anymore.

The real killer? Provider networks. They cost a fortune to buy into, unless you're big enough to negotiate your own like the Aetnas and UHCs of the world. And they don't actually serve a purpose aside from locking you into one insurer over another...want to talk real health care reform? Knock those down, and the little insurance companies might have a fighting chance.
