So are oil companies cartels? Market failure is not necessarily a bad thing, look at microsoft the argument that they prevented competition is nonsense as anyone could install whatever they wanted to on the pc and now microsoft in this age has a lot of competition, the government was not happy so they wanted microsoft to carry competitors software, interestingly visa and mastercard face a lot of competition via alternative pay interestingly if 10 companies have the same interchange fee as visa and mastercard would there be outrage but of course consolidation may be a great thing for certain companies and this is even less than microsoft.
