Reader comment on: Unemployment Benefits and Unemployment

Submitted by Norman (United States), Feb 16, 2011 09:51

I ran out of unemployment benefits last December. I apply for jobs that are "less desirable" but still I don't get hired. Why? I have arthritis in my hips and knees. Employers don't want to deal with my health issues. But SSDI says that since I can still walk (with a cane), and I can still see, hear, type, bend down (albeit with difficulty), I am not "officially" disabled. So, what am I supposed to do? I can't get a job because of my health, but I can't get SSDI because my health isn't disabling enough. I am one trash bag full of soda cans away from becoming homeless.

Was the pay for the new job that close (after taxes) to the unemployment benefit?
